NETWORK ENGINEER LEARNING PATH

Network Engineer Programme

A progressive engineering path from Ethernet and IP through VLANs, routing, firewalls, WiFi, fibre, monitoring, troubleshooting and commissioning.

Who this is for

Someone who installs, supports or designs switched, routed, wireless or fibre networks. Start with the first phase even if you already know the terminology.

How to use it

Follow the modules in order the first time. Return later by subject when you need a field reference.

End goal

You should be able to reason through a packet path, design the supporting infrastructure, verify it with evidence and troubleshoot failures without random changes.

Phase 1: Build the packet-path model

Learn what must happen from the cable through Layer 2 and Layer 3 before adding advanced features.

Phase 2: Switching and routing

Build networks that remain predictable when links and paths multiply.

Phase 3: Wireless, PoE and fibre

Move beyond copper switching into the infrastructure that connects modern endpoints.

Phase 4: Operate and troubleshoot

A network engineer must be able to prove where a fault is, not merely change settings until it disappears.

By the end of this programme

☑ Explain a packet path from endpoint through switching, routing, policy and destination.
☑ Design VLAN, trunk, routing and firewall boundaries around actual business requirements.
☑ Plan PoE, wireless and fibre as engineering systems rather than isolated products.
☑ Use counters, logs and monitoring to establish evidence.
☑ Troubleshoot from the physical layer upward.
☑ Commission and document a network before handover.
