INSTALLER HANDBOOK

WiFi Installer Handbook

A deployment guide that treats WiFi as an RF design and validation problem, not a floor-area calculator.

Requirements before AP count

  • Identify users, device types, applications and performance requirements.
  • Obtain an accurate floor plan and understand construction materials.
  • Identify existing WLAN problems and known interference sources.
  • Decide what must be measured during validation.

RF planning

  • Channel width affects channel reuse.
  • AP placement should be designed around coverage, capacity and interference, not floor area alone.
  • Large channel widths can be difficult to reuse in dense deployments.
  • Regulatory channel and power availability varies by country and band.

Site survey

  • Record AP mounting locations and heights.
  • Capture relevant RF conditions with appropriate survey tools.
  • Mark interference sources and coverage concerns on the plan.
  • Validate the installed design after deployment.

Wired dependency

  • Every AP also consumes switch capacity, cabling and usually PoE.
  • Verify switch-port capability and PoE requirements.
  • Plan uplink capacity based on the network design rather than AP marketing speed.
  • Document the AP-to-switch-port relationship.

Configuration record

  • Record SSIDs, intended VLANs and authentication design without publishing secrets.
  • Record channel and channel width after commissioning.
  • Record firmware/controller baseline where operationally useful.
  • Keep credentials outside general project documentation.

Validation

  • Validate against the project's own coverage and performance criteria.
  • Test roaming where mobility is a requirement.
  • Revisit channel use and interference after the system is live.
  • Do not declare RF success from AP link lights.
No fake AP calculator: floor area alone cannot determine a defensible AP count. Environment, construction, client mix, capacity, interference and the project's RF targets matter.

How to use this handbook

Values that depend on a product, project specification, test limit, local requirement or manufacturer warranty must be verified from that source. Netcomtech does not turn an example product specification into a universal installation rule.
