INSTALLER HANDBOOK

Rack & Data Centre Handbook

Practical cabinet and rack-room guidance focused on fit, access, airflow, cabling, power paths and maintainability.

Cabinet selection

  • Check equipment width format, depth, rail range and weight.
  • Check cabinet static load rating and mounting method.
  • Plan front/rear service clearance and door swing.
  • Do not choose a cabinet from U-height alone.

Rack elevation

  • Reserve space for patching and cable management.
  • Keep heavy equipment placement and rail requirements in mind.
  • Document actual U positions after installation.
  • Leave deliberate expansion space rather than accidental gaps.

Airflow

  • Respect equipment airflow direction.
  • Avoid obstructing intake or exhaust paths.
  • Blanking and containment decisions depend on the cooling design.
  • Heat output is not the same thing as complete cooling-system sizing.

Power

  • Record PDU and outlet assignment.
  • For dual-cord equipment, document the intended A/B path.
  • Verify actual PDU, circuit and UPS ratings before declaring capacity.
  • Keep network and power documentation aligned with the rack elevation.

Cabling

  • Maintain cable bend requirements at rack entry and management points.
  • Keep fibre protected from sharp transitions and contamination.
  • Plan patch-cord lengths rather than stuffing excess into managers.
  • Make labels readable after the rack is populated.

Handover baseline

  • Rack elevation.
  • Equipment schedule.
  • Switch and patch-panel port schedule.
  • Power map, photographs and outstanding-items list.

How to use this handbook

Values that depend on a product, project specification, test limit, local requirement or manufacturer warranty must be verified from that source. Netcomtech does not turn an example product specification into a universal installation rule.
