Qualification
Qualification tools can help determine whether existing cabling can support particular network technologies, depending on the tool and test method.
Certification
Certification compares measured cabling performance with a selected standards limit. Copper parameters extend beyond wiremap. Fibre certification includes the test requirements applicable to the project and standard.
Permanent link vs channel
The permanent-link configuration is used for the fixed installed cabling. Channel testing includes the relevant patch cords. Select the configuration required by the project, not whichever adapter is easiest to reach.
Fibre Tier 1 / basic
End-to-end loss testing with an optical loss test set addresses the link's overall optical loss when performed with the correct reference and test method.
OTDR / extended characterisation
An OTDR can locate and characterise events along a fibre link. It complements end-to-end loss testing and is especially valuable for troubleshooting and project specifications requiring event-level information.
The report is part of the job: record the selected test limit, cable ID and result. Retaining detailed results gives the owner and installer a baseline for accountability and future troubleshooting.
