Scenario: A business needs managed office WiFi and switching, while a separate requirement connects remote buildings using outdoor wireless links.

UniFi is evaluated for the managed LAN, gateways, switching and access points. UISP products are evaluated for service-provider-style or outdoor point-to-point and point-to-multipoint infrastructure where appropriate.

Decision: Select the product family from the network role rather than assuming all Ubiquiti products are part of one interchangeable management architecture.

The hardware can be individually capable but form an awkward management design, require unexpected controllers or injectors, or fail to provide the intended end-to-end feature set.

  • Choose the appropriate Ubiquiti product family for that role.
  • Check management or controller requirements.
  • Verify Ethernet speeds, PoE input/output and optical uplinks.
  • Check environmental and mounting requirements for outdoor equipment.

1. Start with the clients

WiFi performance is limited by the capabilities of the client devices as well as the access point. A WiFi 7 access point can be valuable in a modern environment with compatible clients, but replacing an access point does not automatically turn older laptops and phones into WiFi 7 devices.

2. Understand the bands

Current UniFi access points in the supplied Server Warehouse range include dual-band WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 models as well as tri-band WiFi 7 models. The choice matters because 6 GHz operation is available only on appropriate WiFi 6E and WiFi 7 equipment and compatible client devices.

3. Look at the wired uplink

A fast wireless access point needs an Ethernet connection capable of carrying its traffic. Your range includes 2.5 GbE and 10 GbE WiFi 7 access points. That means the switch, cabling and upstream network should be considered at the same time as the AP.

4. Check PoE before ordering

Ubiquiti documents different PoE requirements across its AP range. For example, its current documentation lists U7 Lite at 13 W, U7 Pro at 21 W, U7 Pro Max at 25 W, U7 Pro XG at 22 W and U7 Pro XGS at 29 W. The switch's total PoE availability must cover the combined requirements of the connected devices.

5. Indoor, outdoor and in-wall deployments are different

Your Server Warehouse range includes in-wall, indoor, mesh and outdoor models. Do not select an outdoor AP simply because it has a larger specification sheet. The enclosure, mounting position, coverage requirement and cable route all matter.
